Selling Books - Amazon.com vs. Half.com
Selling Books - Amazon.com vs. Half.com
Selling books on Amazon.com is easy and with the past success that I had I can recommend it. I will talk about half.com too. Half.com was bought by eBay and it is the way to sell books at a fixed price in eBay. According to their website, they reimburse you a portion of the shipping, and only charge 15% percent for selling the book. This is all if the book sells. If the book does not sell, you do not pay anything. This very similar to Amazon.
The difference is that Amazon charges, currently .99 cents plus a "closing cost", and for books that is $1.20. This comes out to $2.19, plus a 15% of the book price. You can see that selling very cheap books may not be profitable in Amazon.
However, people will buy more from Amazon than from Half.com. I've had books listed in Amazon and sold them pretty quickly. I have listed with Half.com, but had not had any success.
The other problem is getting customer service from Half.com. You have to send them an email. And I had bad experiences with them. With Amazon I can call them over the phone, there is a special number for sellers. Just call the main the number and ask them to connect you to the sellers customer's service. (By the way the main 800 number for Amazon, which they do not list on their website is... - see it on Wikipedia's article on Amazon, all the way at the bottom).
Has any body had any success with Half.com vs. Amazon, please leave your comments.
